Take a Hint

Is it just me? A couple of days ago i was on my company bus back home. I wanted to be dropped in a different stop than my own and take a taxi home since i reach faster that way. So i needed 5 pounds. And i didnt have change that day. Well i had 4 pounds and was short on one. So i was telling this girl beside me who is not a stranger but not a very close friend either. We sit by each other and talk all the way from work to maadi (an hour ride). Anyway i decided to share my problem... that im one pound short to go home early.. otherwise ill have to wait till my stop which is the very last stop. Ok if you were in her shoes... what would be your natural reaction? If it was me i would have two options. 1. I would sincerly look for a pound and give it to her OR 2. if i dont want to give her the money, i would say "let me see if i have any change" look in the bag carelessly and then say "Sorry.. im out of change too" Is that normal or is it just me!! She on the other hand....

Big BOrSS

Whats up with bosses these days!! Have they gone totally nuts? SOmetimes they give themselves too much rights that literally come out of no where. One of my friends had a henna party she attended. So she had some Henna drawn on her hands. Next morning she was surprised to find her boss so disgusted and told her that she wasnt allowed to have henna on her hands!! Where did THAT come from. So she simply told him... my husband doesnt mind... what is it to you!? He on the other hand told her that he doeant like his secretary to have this kind of art on her hands and ordered her to either wear gloves to work or not come to the office until the henna fades!!! Ofcourse she took the day off (NOT from her annuals) Another time one of the kitchen girls came to work for the management kitchen. SHe was a veiled girl. However, the rule was... if she wanted to work up in management floor she had to lose the veil. Yeah...and they say only arabs discriminate!!! These are foreign rules and not national...

Humourization!!!

Image
Ive noticed that i always take a humourous approach to everything. Happy, Sad, sarchastic, grief, accidents, pains, insults.... EVERYTHING! My memory is so down the drain and my humour usually saves the day. One of the incidents that my memory gave up on me and my humour saved me was the time when i went in to my company chairman to pay my respects for one of his inlaws death. Im not really fluent when it comes to paying respects... so i learn what i want to say like "elbaka2 lellah" and keep repeating it in my head with nothing else to distract me. On my way to his office... i asked his secretary if he was inside and she said yes go ahead. Upon setting foot in his office.. my mind went blank... the my mouth blurted something that i honestly dont know where it came from. While i had my most serious face and grieving face possible i said "Happy New Year". He smiled and said... same to you. But ofcourse i was on the ground laughing at my goofy.. and so was he. When i ...

A special New year

Happy new year everybody... may 2010 be full of happy and fruitful events. I hope all of you had a very special new years eve... kind of like mine but in a VERY different way. Oh yeah.. my new years eve was very eventful. I was out of town for the week with my family and we were on our way back this Thursday. When we came back we were stunned to know and see the back door triangular window of our parked car broken and our back seat speakers stolen. The front door has been a little damaged due to the forced entry trial... and error... hence the broken window! Yes indeed. My husband spent his new years eve in the street between the police station to file a report... to the car wash to remove all the glass in the backseats and finally to the glass repair shop to fix the little window. At the end of the day, we thanked god that there was nothing valuable in that car which could have caused us a lot of damage. We also thanked god that the theif was so dumb that he took the speakers and left...

Sanity... or Insanity

A couple of days ago i was sitting casually infront of my TV screen with Leen playing with her toys on the ground infront of my sofa. While flipping the channels i stopped at one that has a program called "words of the heart". The hostess was a young beautiful veiled lady... and infront of her was an older woman who she referred to as "Doctora". I didnt know the interviewed doctor's name and i didnt care. SO i kept it for a while to watch what they were talking about discussing some woman's problem and the doctor said that she has been accussed of being harsh and hard on women... but she isnt and her advice comes from a mothers heart to her daughter! After a minute or two they got a phone call from a young lady who was telling them her problem and really didnt ask any questions for the doctor to answer. She went on saying that she was married to a pious man who was very good to her and her children. HE only had one problem.. that when he was angry or nervous...

The Poison Tree

Marwa Rakha an AUC graduate has written a book "The posion tree" and published it online after feeling like she was ripped off by her publishers. She has made her site for anyone who wants to publish a book they wrote for free and she even offers editors, designers and marketers for free. She promises her author friends to promote their books on her facebook group, twitter and whereever she can. Ive been reading her book about how guys are these days in egypt and how girls are as well. i must admit that she has written this book in a very nice style and her sense of humour truly shines through. Even though i might not agree with all her opinions and thoughts i still applaud her style since i really enjoy things that at some point or another make me laugh. So girls... i think all of you can relate to one of her stories and anecdotes... Im so sure you will enjoy it. Give it a shot. To download the book go to the link below: http://www.marwarakha.com/index.php?categoryid=13...

My Fortune Today

My fortune today on yahoo says "Take a moment to remember fourth grade" I found the idea fun and started recalling these happy childhood days. I remember i was in aldiyafa school (currently Aldiyafah highschool) When it was in Jumeirah in a small villa beside Abella supermarket and its principle was Mrs. Dikona (May her soul rest in peace). I loved her and i loved my class teacher (Mrs. Vasanti). It was, however, the first year i come in 4th place out of a full class... of 6 people! That was maybe the worst year i had. Not only was i the 4th out of 6 people i was also devasted because i was used to come in 1st or 2nd on 30 kids. So you can imagine how i felt. i was humiliated. But that was the only downside to this academic year. 4th grade was also the year i met my current sister. She remembers that she was told wonders about a girl she will be meeting in her new class. A girl who was sweet and friendly.. only to find a snob who called her a donkey on her first mistake or so...

Gullible or Cautious

I've been thinking lately how life where i come from has made people so cautious with everything they do. Cautious of how they speak and how they sound when they speak. cautious of every move, every gesture, every look... Cautious of petty much everything! I've visited a friend in the Middle East a couple of years ago. We went out together. And while we left the car to enter one of the shops i tucked my handbag under the car seat. She looked at me in wonder. "What are you doing?" she asked me so innocently!! So i so confidently replied " im hiding my bag so no one would break you car window to take it or something!" Her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. "No one will do that!!" Wow... look how life has made me and how life made her! I never thought that i feel insecure where i live... but these petty things were just gestures of caution. But there where she came from... these cautious moves werent even on her mind... I loved it! But after a while i...

Happy Eid

Happy Eid everyone. Enjoy the la7ma and the fattah!! (That menu is sooooo not for me) Go out, travel, meet friends and the long lost family you never see or call. Now is the time to do it... Get up and do it. Yalla!

The power of Tones

I have lately noticed how powerful the tone of our voices are. Of course i knew it was powerful from the start but today ive given it a deeper thought. Probably because i have a baby girl who i use all the different tones with. Have you noticed how we sound when we want to put a full stop after a sentence we say? There is a halt. for example.."Happy feast". Now try to say happy feast again and then follow it with an "and" meaning you have something else to say after that; for example.."happy feast and may next year be happier" Have you noticed how we tend to make the feast a little extended? "Happy feeeeast and..." Heheh so when u wanna tell someone this is the end of the conversation you really dont have to say it... you sound it! as in THATS IT. Now notice the tone of the question. The last word in the question always has a different tone... which implies expecting an answer. ANd then when you call someone's name... for example in my case...

NO... its not OK!

For the past couple of days, one subject has been repeated infront of me several times. Questions and wonderments have been asked. So i decided to go online to one of my personally favorite sites youthink.com and publish a question. "Is homosecxuality a natural occurence ie people are born that way? or is a choice to live this way for some social reasons? And sure enough i got some interesting answers. Some said.. people are born that way.. others said its a sexual preference like liking burger king over mcdonalds :)ANd some said its a choice and a bizarre one. Ofcourse the answers i got were mostly non-arabs and non-muslims so it was mostly opinions that i wanted to see and relate to how those people feel or think for that matter. At the end of the day it wont effect me in anyway. But then i saw an AUC circular or newsletter stating that "Girls choose feminine companionship in AUC" and by companionship they dont mean friends they mean sexually active partners. Im not a...

Poem of the Day - Ad Finum

Ad Finum On the white throat of useless passion That scorched my soul with its burning breath I clutched my fingers in murderous fashion And gathered them close in a grip of death; For why should I fan, or feed with fuel, A love that showed me but blank despair? So my hold was firm, and my grasp was cruel - I meant to strangle it then and there! I thought it was dead. But, with no warning, It rose from its grave last night and came And stood by my bed till the early morning. And over and over it spoke your name. Its throat was red where my hands had held it; It burned my brow with its scorching breath; And I said, the moment my eyes beheld it, 'A love like this can know no death.' For just one kiss that your lips have given In the lost and beautiful past to me, I would gladly barter my hopes of Heaven And all the bliss of Eternity. For never a joy are the angels keeping, To lay at my feet in Paradise, Like that of into your strong arms creeping, And looking into your love lit e...

Keepin in Touch!

Turns out that my only link to the world of english music these days is Queen of Shiba's song of the day. I mean i dont listen very often these days to Nile FM but the last song i heard on it was "my herat will go on-Titanic!!!" And NO it wasnt on those days when all of the radio stations played the song. It was Waaaaaaaaaaay past that time. Even though im so sure that if i listen to NIle FM now i will probably not recognize a single song but then again i havent heard new western songs for the past umm 4 years? Yeah!! In the car... my husband listen to arabic songs... if there was somthing good on. And to be honest... all the arabic songs now have almost the same beat. I guess the only difference between the songs is knowing who is singing it and imagining what they look like. Ofcourse.. im referring to people who you would want to imagine... Like Nancy Agram or Haifa or Elissa. Im also talking about guys imaginations and not specifically mine!! :) So now every morning i ...

I've Been Inspired

Well... today i saw my friend Bassi's blog and i was inspired. She really does spill her beans! :) It's weird how we can feel the people speaking the words they write. And when you know someone for so long like Bassi and i do... you can really see through the written words. But it also makes me realize that there are things you cant really see when you talk to someone.. face to face... But it's so clear when you read it instead. Wow.. the power of the pen...( or in this case.. the power of the keyboard) :) Well.. looks like i might take this blog thing a little more seriously.. even though i dont think i have so many beans to spill everyday!.. I mean WOW... is my brain so empty so often? :) Who knows... maybe at some point ill have something important to say. Maybe i will inspire someone to do the same... and have a blog that is so translucent into the soul like Bassis' . Way to go babe. I luv luv your blog... cant wait to see your next post ;) Cheers love

Long time no...Blog!

Wow.. its been almost three years since i wrote anything. And while my first blog was made to comment on another friends blogs, this one still has nothing much to say.
