The NERVE!!
I happen to invite my family over for a belated bday party for my girl. It was lovely. The cake was great. The games were great. The gifts were great. Overall it was a success.
Then by the end of the night... and while people were on their way to the door. One of the invitees started criticising my cutlery!! Usually when i have over 25 people in the house i use disposable plates and glasses!. That was obviously a problem!!
The criticism and questions of whether i didnt have plates and glasses, or was it too much to ask a maid to come and wash them after the party.. or if i didnt have MONEY to pay the maid to come!
WWWOOOOW!!
I was mesmerised for a minute coz i didnt see it coming and now that i think of it.. i was too nice. After all this is an old aged family member so i didnt want to be rude.
After the party was all over though i discovered that those comments werent the first through the night. That comments kept coming to my husband every minute of the night.
Things like "WOW.. You Really DO HAVE glasses... helliluja"
Honestly, why would someone want to be so rude when they are actually invited to your house!. NO matter how close you are, why cant they just keep their mouth shut and their comments to the host in private or even better.. keep them to yourself.
If you feel disrespected by the disposable cutlery which i honestly dont plan to change.. then just dont come.. or bring your gold plate and gold spoon with you. Or simply ask for a plate with no further comments.
I really dont know what to say except.... Wow... some people have the nerve to do some weird Sh*t.
Does anyone think its disrespectful to have disposable stuff for a big party?
ANYONE??

People HAVE to find something to criticize, no matter how close they are to you..it's their mentality that speaks that benti.Fokkek ya sheikha, do what u see is right!
even she is old, she had no right to critsize you.
i never use my kitchenware when i have people over a party..unless its just 1 additional family for dinner at our home.
even sometimes we use paper plates when its just us to make the clean up less.
and i agree with queen of shiba. it was a childrens birthday party.
the host should be enjoying her time..not spending so much time in the kitchen doing clean up....
also about the maid...its your childs party. in some situations its good to just take it as a family thing and not expect someone to clean up after you.
Wow, I am so tired of this crap.
I will give you a different opinion here, hope I don't shock you.
You should try to look at things from others prespective. first of all, my guess is this family member is a lady (ladies are the ones who pay attention to these things) if she loves you, then she probably thought she was giving you and your husband advice rather than critcise.(Although it is obvious she failed to make her point) :(
Second, some poeple really get offended when offered disposable cutlery.
I guess you are not the kitchen wizard who makes a lot of family gathering, so my advice to you is: next time you have one, make the china cutlery available for adults and disposable one for kids (the trick to tempt kids to choose the disposable ones is to pick colourful plates and cups with characters).
Tell us how it goes the next time you have a family gathering :0)
